TBI Fuel Filter with Carb and Mech Fuel Pump
Hi Truck Crew From GA
BACKGROUND: Doing a crate motor swap on my 1987 R10 305 / TH400. SBC crate engine has provision for mechanical fuel pump and I have a intake/carb/HEI setup on hand. My current (TBI) tank and sending unit is trashed. I am replacing the tank and sending unit with new units and would like to use a mechanical pump with the carb (meaning no electric fuel pump). I intend to get a "normal" sending unit/pickup for the new tank too. QUESTION: Can I run a mechanical pump and leave a new TBI style fuel filter (thats on the frame rail for a TBI setup) inline? I would also add a small filter just before entry to the carb fuel inlet. Leaving the filter would let me make a hard line from the mech pump back to the TBI filter and it would be a solid place to attach the line without using rubber hose. It would also be double insurance for clean fuel. My concern is that that would be to much "resistance" in the fuel line for the mech pump to overcome (as fuel was being pushed through the TBI filter and not pulled). Thanks for any thoughts/advice. |

Re: TBI Fuel Filter with Carb and Mech Fuel Pump
Never tried it but, I do not see why not. They are super easy to blow through when new.

Re: TBI Fuel Filter with Carb and Mech Fuel Pump
I have ran a Fram G-3 gas filter on the suction side of a mechanical fuel pump for years and never had a problem.
