GMC Hood Letter Difference ??
Okay, just looking thru the forum this evening and noticed a reference to the letter " M " being somewhat different in two separate letter offerings?? I have a letter " M " , do not have the G & the C to go with it. Not sure where I acquired it but it's in the parts stash. Has the number # 3929263 cast into the back, both mount studs intact and directly across from each other. Seems there is a difference from a " flat " letter M and one that has a "notch" or is V cut to the letter? Don't have a GMC to look at, can't compare it to my '71 Chevy 4x4. My BIL has a '67 GMC he will be parting out as he has time. The GMC on it is in the grill area, not on the hood? Need some help here guys,

Re: GMC Hood Letter Difference ??
As stated, 67 will have gmc in the grill, 68 "M" will have a center with a bend in it, and 69-72 will have more of a notch in it to match the hood. (picture the hood line on your chevy)

Re: GMC Hood Letter Difference ??
After 67 the letters were on the hood. 68 is probably different than 69-72 cuz the hood changed in 69 and had a ridge.
Edit: Too much stuff explained this much better than I did.

Re: GMC Hood Letter Difference ??
Thanks for the reply and the explanations. Having never owned a GMC did not realize the oddities about the hood letters. Til my BIL acquired the 67 GMC did not know it is the only year with the GMC in the grille. STILL learning about these trucks and have played with them for years, LOL. (The Chevys that is.)
Being a one year only hood letter do I dare ask here what it's value may be? If I get my hand slapped from a moderator I guess I'll know the answer to the value question huh?

Re: GMC Hood Letter Difference ??
If you have all 3 in decent shape for 68 with good studs I would say maybe $30. If it was the 69-72 style I would guess around $20
