Steering wheel suggestions/advice
72 c10 with factory 17” wheel and tilt. I’d like a smaller steering wheel. 14” or 15”? Are the adaptors brand specific (have to match the new wheel)? Horn button included? Does the tilt column pose any install problems? I’d like a wheel that is - or looks like - wood. Sorry for all the questions. Any info/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
I installed a 60's corvette wood wheel, the dish is a bit deep and that places it pretty far out. If I were to upgrade again, I would just do a factory style comfort grip wheel. They are nice, come in a complete kit for under $200 and a little smaller diameter with less dish so it sits closer to the steering wheel.
Lots of guys have modified their shifter and turn signal levers to be shorter to go with the decrease in wheel diameter. Here is an older post talking about it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=540199

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
I have a 70s Camaro 4-spoke wheel on one vehicle and wrapped it in leather. If I was to do it again I'd pad the wheel a bit. Modern wheels are much thicker and padded so to me wood is just too hard.
GM wheels are easier to get the horn stuff set up on. I had a Grant and the horn button would stick down and was crap. Think about where the spokes are on the wheel and if they'll obscure the view of the gauges.

Thanks for all the replies. A1971Blazer, I like that wheel. What’s the brand/model? Also, any knuckle-busting with it that close to the gear selector?

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
Do the sport wheel spokes block the view of the lower row of gauges? I had the camaro wheel on a previous truck and got rid of it because it blocked the view.

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
That is the Comfort Grip wheel mentioned above. Optional starting in '68 or '69 on Novas, Chevelles and Camaros and was standard on the Corvette starting in '69. My favorite wheel. My Camaro has one, my short step has one, and so does my CJ-5!

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
To enhance the car-like quality to these interiors, more on the luxury side, there are the padded steering wheels from the Caprice, Monte Carlo, Impalas of the same years as these trucks still made in colors, or black. There is a variety available

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
Thanks for the replies. Found the comfort grip wheel. Says it will fit a 72 C10. Hub is included. Also found a hub for a 67-68 Camaro. They look the same to me. Yes? Thanks again.

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
Here's my 15 incher, I think it is from an 88-98 truck, PO put it on.
Please no comments on the upside-down condition, I'm self-conscious enough as it is already. I'm actually wanting to go back to a factory style 17 inch. You wanna sell yours after the swap?

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
I mostly find them at swap meets, flea markets, guys selling parts online, parts classifieds. I like the car wheels with chrome horn ring. Chevy trucks are easy with all the cars made. GMC is a challenge. If it has to have a car insignia I want it to be BOP. I have a saddle 4-spoke Comfort Grip with Olds rocket insignia on horn button for my '72. I think I paid $75 at a swap meet for the bare wheel. Then really paid when I bought the hub and horn stuff from a 442 guy. This was all OEM back then.

I went with the comfort wheel. Picked it up at ausley's chevelle parts complete kit was 206$. They were at the Syracuse nationals. My 66 SS Chevelle has a mint oem wood two spoke wheel . The new one is nice but not as nice as the original.

Re: Steering wheel suggestions/advice
I enjoy my 14" Forever Sharp wheel. The nice thing is that you can easily change the half wrap to different colors, even wood. Horn button and adapters - many styles and choices.
