Dynamat,Hushmat, Bonded Logic, DEI floor and tunnel shield, Roadkill Fat Mat
Second Skin, Lizard Skin, etc. Which one is best for the price to provide heat and some sound insulation on the floor, back wall, and roof of my square? I am most concerned about heat resistance and low price. Thanks for any help and experience you may have with any of these products. I am working on the interior of my 83 and want to get the right materials in place now.

That's a subjective question. You won't find a concensus on which one is "best." I recently went thru the same issue and ended up doing a hands on comparison with what is locally available. The DEI is good but pricey. The hushmat is good as well. Since I'm covering my entire inner firewall and floor and some of the inner doors, price was a concern. I ended up with the Summit Racing brand. Cost effective and seems to be identical to hushmat at a much better price. The key is prep-take the time to clean the surface, cut to fit and use a roller. I am very happy with the heat/sound resistance.

I went the Home Depot route and am quite happy with the results. Is it as good as the other stuff ... I don't know. It certainly quieted down the cab and provided more insulation than stock.

So what product exactly did you buy at Home Depot?

Re: Dynamat,Hushmat, Bonded Logic, DEI floor and tunnel shield, Roadkill Fat Mat
I had some leaks around the windshield shield and through the edges of the evaporator box into the heater box, which dripped on to the floor and under the carpet padding. This caused some surface rust on the passenger floor.
I got some 3M black rope caulk to reinstall the evaporator box and will also seal the edges where it meets the firewall with black RTV. I wire brushed off the rust and used Harbor Freight Iron Armor to prevent against future rust. I am not too concerned about adhesion to the iron armor since it will be mostly under the carpet and adhered to the firewall with fasteners, and the back wall will be covered by my behind the seat tool storage box. So far, the Iron Armor looks to be OK and I have been leaving the truck doors open to air it out for the past week and I don't smell any odors in the truck yet. I noticed that the stock firewall insulation went under the lip of the heater box so I am planning on doing the same with the new insulation. |

i've used lizard skin in 4 cars now and haven't really been impressed with any of them. but, it is a nice 'ground coat' when used with weighted mat. It just sucks when used by itself.

It all starts around post #292 in my build thread.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...694939&page=12 It is U Seal waterproof repair tape. It was with the roofing stuff. I then used a layer of duct insulation on top.

Re: Dynamat,Hushmat, Bonded Logic, DEI floor and tunnel shield, Roadkill Fat Mat
I used a brand called GT mat off ebay and made sure it was their butyl series. I can tell a world of a difference but take it with a grain of salt, I didn't even have carpet before let alone sound deadening. I also bedlined the underside of the cab while I was at it.
