That is a granny-low 4-speed. A compound low, non-syncronized 1st gear, and gears 2-4 are to be used like 1-3 on a normal 3spd manual tranny. First is for pulling a heavy load, or going at a very slow speed. Its not needed for taking off around town when you aren't pulling anything.

its not a 4 speed its a 3/12 speed or in my case with a worn 2nd gear syncro its more like a 2 3/4 speed

ya you can but most of the time you can just clean up all the surfaces and use some RTV I redid the tranny in my truck like 5 years ago with silicone and it hasnt leaked a drop

you can get almost anything for these transimissions because they were used up into 91 or so. I know our 89 k-5 has one.... with a lift and 35 inch tires compaired to stocks 31's i dont even use low... and i didnt regear the axles... if i put it in low and dump the clutch it will jolt the truck and u can get out and walk faster then it. bullit proof transmissions.
