Clam shell's LS and Low mount AC...

So this has probably been killed here but I'm not having luck on specifics...

I have a 2005 4.8 LS Turbo being dropped into my 1974 C10... sounds simple enough but.

Clam Shell SBC engine mounts, LS engine mount adapter, and low mount Vintage Air are not cooperating, specifically I can't get the clam shell to mount to the adapter because the VA Compressor mount is in the way.

The adapter I have is from ICT, typical multi position flat plate which by itself mounts up fine with the VA bracket. I just don't have the room to mount the clam shell.

Do I need to modify the clam shell, looks like there is enough meat there to allow me to cut away enough to make it fit.

I noticed Dirty Dingo has a adaptor/mount which they say clears the low mount AC bracket, do I just run that?

Any other options out there?

Im thinking you need a high mount for the ac....not a low mount.....factory a.c. location won't work on my truck without a big frame notch.....ive still not installed mine but I know it won't work down low

I've seen a few low AC mount trucks running the turbo high on the pass side, the alternator already owns the high driver air space so I didn't want to mess with that.

Since I saw the DD engine adapter for low AC mounts I figured I'd go ahead and notch the clamshell and see what happens. Here is a pic, it all looks pretty good to me. Plenty of meat left to hold the engine in place and room to thread the nut on the bolt holding the engine mount. I actually could have left alot more meat on the mount but there is is.

OH, I did have to flatten the bulge on the clamshell, for what ever reason the ICT adapter did not have enough relief area in there plate to use the rear most mount point of the adapter. What is odd is my driver side clamshell does not have a bulge.


I did read there needs to be a frame notch to fit the AC low but haven got that far yet. From what I have seen on youtube it doesn't look to be that big. If it is I'll see what I can do to brace the area but one way or another I will have a low mount AC unit in my C10.

I have the low mount on my 86 truck. I built the mounts from the LS section of this forum. Basically, I extended the back of the frame mount, so I could move the engine mount back, thus allowing me to run the AC compressor. I have a small notch on the top to allow the AC lines to exit the compressor. Maybe 1 inch by 1 inch, on the top of the pass frame rail.

I am running a 6.2 with the factory truck brackets and truck AC compressor.

If you are really wanting to stick with low-mount AC, you should just go ahead and change mounts before you go any further. Check out Scotty's website. Also, if you're on facebook, look for the LS swapped squarebody group that he admins. There is a TON of info in that group. His mounts allow you to retain the truck AC compressor or use the low mount vintage air compressor.
