Are the GMC paint codes the same as those of Chevy in 1982?
Hey everybody, I’m looking to order paint and I’m planning to keep the truck all original at this point but it didn’t have a build sheet in the glove box when I bought. Are the GMC paint codes the same as those of Chevy in 1982? I’ve attached an image of the truck and it seems to be a bit more yellow than a lot of the tan trucks I’ve seen, so I’m not sure if it’s the Santa Fe tan or a different color, but it’s defi not yellow. If anyone knows for sure which color it is and if it is indeed Santa Fe tan I’d be grateful for your help. Also if anyone can confirm the paint code for the white I’d a appreciate it. The first pic is of a truck that’s the same combo I found online (which is gorgeous if anyone knows whose it is). Thanks guys.

Re: Are the GMC paint codes the same as those of Chevy in 1982?
Yep.
A GMC is a Chevy with RPO Z88 added. Here is some additional (generic) info for 1982, from the GM Heritage Center archives: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf You really can't go by the noun name of the color, because there is a bunch of Marketing/Studio influence in the naming. What color is "Verdian Joule"? (answer: silver) How about "Silver Topaz"? (answer: blue) There's Tuxedo Black, Midnight Black, Camaro Black, Black Diamond and "Pot meets Kettle" Black (I am not making that up). "Hugger Orange" on a Chevy magically becomes "Carousel Red" on a Pontiac. Anyway - that's why the paint code and the associated WA number are the definitive handles when referring to a color. Oh - and computer monitors are famous for not representing the actual color. K

Having said all that:
For the truck in the picture I'd have to go with Santa Fe Tan upper (60U, where "U" means "Upper", or primary) and Frost White lower (12L, where "L" equals "Lower", or secondary).

Lastly, depending on how interested or desperate you are - you can send your VIN and $50 to the GM Heritage Center and they will return to you the invoice for your specific truck.
It will include the exact RPO content, pricing, build dates and selling dealership. Then you would know absolutely positively for sure. It will look like this:

Wow, thank you Keith, I learned more than one new thing today. I had no idea I could send that in and get an invoice. To me that's worth 50$ all day. Thank you. Also can they pull paint codes with the numbers given on those charts? The 60U

Yes - the paint recipes are in the public domain.
http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/aclc...truck-pg01.jpg Per this chart it looks like Code 60 = WA5236 The original paint was High Solid enamel but they can mix up the same color in any chemistry you want. When I redid my '87 (Code 72 Apple Red) I asked the shop to mix up WA7475 in base coat/clear coat, hoping for a little more depth and better durability. It turned out perfect. K

You might consider posting the invoice for posterity (just block the sequential portion of the VIN) once you have it. K

My '85 was same color I think. It had a yellow value to it. It was called Doeskin that year

The paint code for my '75 GMC was 62, Light Saddle Tan. That is probably the tan color that you have seen on other trucks. It definitely does not look yellow like your truck.
