isn't the front driveshaft on a 241 on the opposite side from a 203/205?

It depends.
The 241 came on the RV and CK body trucks. The RV series 241 is RH drop The CK series (GMT400) is LH drop. Probably they got a price break from New Process and Warner that were building Ford and Dodge LH Drop transfer cases and the odd man out was the GM RH drop cases. GM didn't buy into New Venture Gear til 1990.
