I bought my 52 Burb Ambulance just like this one in Sept 2014. What has happened to the build? Still have it going? Anyone know?

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
I started working on the firewall a few months ago. I welded up 50+ holes and ground them down. You can see that the firewall is the original olive drab that the US Army ordered for the ambulance.
I applied seam sealer to all the sheet metal joints and decided to use Herculiner to coat the firewall. (photos on next post).

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
I chose Herculiner because it was on sale for $60.00 a gallon. That was enough for the firewall, the entire undercarriage and the interior floor. It came out real nice and definitely seals and covers any imperfections, plus it really sticks to any surface. See photos.

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
Next I herculiner'ed the entire underside. That should seal it up for a long time. It stuck as well to the wood as it did the metal.
In the second picture, you can see that I've moved the gas filler pipe from the passenger side to the driver's side. I used the stock S10 filler pipe, bent a little more bend into it, and mounted it about 7" forward of the old one. This gives me enough room to do a double 90 degree turn into the tank. (in a previous post, I said I had a 13 gallon tank. Turns out I have the larger 19 gallon model). The fourth picture shows the filler pipe mounted on the outside skin. I used rivet-nuts to mount both the filler pipe and the new billet aluminum door. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

The progress is looking good. I also plan to do something similar to cover the floors and underside.

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
Lower 50,
I bought an AMI cover, model 6090. It is designed for a 2000-2006 Cadillac Escalade or a GMC Yukon. Most places online charge about $90.00. I was lucky enough to find a brand new one on ebay for $25.00 delivered. Possum

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
Lower 50.
The 6090 does not include a locking mechanism. I installed that myself after I solved any clearance issues with my filler pipe. I think you would save time this way. Installing a lock is real easy. Possum

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
99 to life,
I saw it on sale at O'riellys Auto Supply for $69.99. Then the counter guy showed me a coupon in their coupon rack for another $10.00 off. Ka-ching!

Re: 1952 GMC Suburban/S10 Swap
Great to see you back Possum! I have several questions. 1. Ever figure out or see what the roof vent looked like on the inside? I have one too and thought it might be handy to keep. 2. I built a rotisserie sp? using your ideas. Son has already used it before me. One thing though. Does yours bind up when trying to lower the whole shebang? I'm about ready to put my body on and would like to remedy that. But it's not a big deal at the time. I'm getting anxious to get it spinning and get all that undercoating off, and recoated. Will be real handy for the sandblaster to get to also!
Again, good to see you back posting AZCORNMAN |

Actually, the Burb has been running now for about 6 months. I am currently on a cross-country vacation and will respond again with photos in about 4 weeks! Sorry I've been so lax on this website....
