Loose Interior Mirror

My mirror won’t stay set. Seems to be extremely loose fit where the ball is. Anyone found a way to tighten this up? I’ve found this to be an issue with other aftermarket mirrors. It seems that the metal that makes up the rear where the stem comes through isn’t snug enough. Thinking of removing mirror and using a center punch to try to tighten up the fit. Any other ideas?

I found the same problem with my replacement mirror. I was planning on buying another one, just haven't gotten to it yet. Let me know if you figure out a way to tighten it.

When I worked in tooling sometimes we would take a small center punch. And use it to tighten the exterior metal against the mating surface. I don’t know if I will get to it before the end of next week. But will take a picture and post it when I do it. Hate to spend $40-50 plus shipping for another poorly make part.

Hey just a quick note - my 2+2 has the super rare (for Canada, anyway) map light on the GM Guide mirror option. They were going for $500 in nice condition, but someone now reproduced them.

If you have a way to run a wire, its a nice way to add a map light!

I would need to have a magnifying glass hanging from the mirror to read any map. Old eyes like to rest of me. Here's what I tried. Won't be able to road test until next week. Too many cars blocking the drive. One pic shows the mirror after removal. Tried to put the tip of the punch right where the ball fits into the socket to roll the sleeve onto the ball. Dented the rear housing but who will see it. Shown is the punch I used. Should have looked a little harder and found the next smaller size. Which would have had a smaller shank and probably wouldn't have damaged the housing. May end up finding the smaller punch and redoing it if it still droops while on the road. Will let you know how it works next week.
