Re: Anyone Running a Budget Air Ride System?
Running as low as you can go is difficult and requires sufficient engineering to do. Getting the truck low is not the problem. Getting a "drivable vehicle" is the challenge. Here is a link to a discussion on the subject. Do a search on air bag problems to give you an idea what you are up against. There is a reason that people step up and buy expensive setup. Cheap air suspension systems will dissapoint if not at first, but definitely after a while when the short comings get more annoying.

Re: Anyone Running a Budget Air Ride System?
I used firestore bags for 15 years with no problems.
Schrader valves in the glovebox. Up with the air pig and down with the thumb. Cheap and reliable Just need front drop spindles

Re: Anyone Running a Budget Air Ride System?
You can get a basic setup like the guys above have said and add drop spindles with shock relocators and be good to go.
I did the above also added a front sway bar (trimmed at the ends so it won't rub on the bags) a rear sway bar, lowering blocks and traction bar and it's been 5 years with NO problems and NO cutting of my frame and NO bottoming out. I still have my c notch sitting in the shop. My Burb rides low and handles great with my 15 inch wheel and tire combo. There are some sellers I probably won't buy from but there are good sellers still selling basic setups along with the higher priced stuff. Go for it if that's what you want. There is a lot of good information on here about basic air systems just use the search bar. |

Re: Anyone Running a Budget Air Ride System?
My advice, stay away from the kits you see on eBay and Amazon. The previous owner of my truck installed one of those sub $2000 kits and the old saying “you get what you pay for” definitely applies. The system is supposedly under 5 years old, no name bags, no name solenoids that stick randomly, previous owner replaced compressor once and it’s dead again. I’m sure I could come up with more if I think about it.
You don’t need one of those pricey systems with eLevel controls, shockwaves (the shocks with airbags over them) and all of that. What you should be looking for is bags, bag mounts, shock relocators, adjustable panhard bars and manual paddle valves from reputable sources. Have a look at the “suspension” section of the forum and the “suspension marketplace” within it. There you can find vendors who can put together a “kit” with these components. I’ve seen vendors quote prices for these components similar to the amazon and eBay kits. Then if you want to upgrade to electric solenoids or the fancy eLevel controls later you can. Edit: Unless you’re looking to lay the rockers on the ground, then it’s going to be pricey no matter what unless you fabricate everything from scratch yourself. If not then be prepared to spend for stuff like crossmembers, arms, etc. Last edited by Overdriven; 08-23-2018 at 03:00 PM. |
