Sounds like they're ashamed to admit that they sell China made crap! Buy your ball joints at your local auto parts store, that way you can inspect them before shelling out your hard earned cash.

Have you checked with Early Classic Enterprises. They sell a full frontend rebuild kit made by MOOG. "Cheaper than buying each component separately. I've heard mixed reviews here about ECE, but I didn't have any problems.

I bought all my front end parts at the local mom & pop store. All Moog parts, no maid in Taiwan stuff. U-bolts I went to a local truck frame & spring shop, they already had them made and in stock.

LMC usually uses TRW or Fed Mogal. I like the Moog stuff myself. My whole front end is in Moog.

I buy allot of my parts from Kragen Auto Parts. I do this because most of the parts have a lifetime warranty. I returned a set of upper and lower ball joints from my Camaro, you should have seen the look on the parts persons face when I put the bag of greasy ball joints on the counter with my ten year old receipt.

I bought my front end parts from LMC. There is not one name brand part in the whole box...they are all Taiwanese- or Chinese-manufactured parts, although some of the components actually have the LMC p/n forged into the component. They look substantial, not cheaply made, but obviously you can't tell how durable they will be from appearance. But I'm stuck with them, for better or for worse, and all I can hope is that LMC would not put their reputation at stake by selling sub-standard merchandise.
But then too, I think that the expense of the part is one thing, but probably the thing that is more valuable is the time and effort it takes to change the failed component should it not give me the service I expect. Also, while I'm not saying that the Chinese and Taiwanese don't have a way to go in this regard, I remember back in the '50s and '60s how the Japanese were a symbol of poor quality and shoddy manufacturing. If something said "Made In Japan" back then, you expected to pay very little, use it one time, then throw it away. Companies like Sony and Honda overcame that perception by making quality products more cheaply than their American counterparts, and look how Japanese products are regarded today. There is no doubt in my mind that China will do the same... Last edited by Stepsides 4Ever; 05-12-2004 at 11:44 AM. Reason: misspelling |
