Bumper Guard Idenitification help
I found a set of new bumper gaurds and need some help identifying the possible year. They almost match up on my 72 Cheyenne but have a little bit of a gap, shown where the red circles are. These have a smaller secondary indented area, below the main top ridge, where my older set is smooth. So, I believe these may be for 73 up? They both are stamped, on the back, with 914R
Can anyone help?

A 73 - 80 bumper guard has two notches in it, while that one has only one notch, so I'm fairly sure that it is an 81 - 87 guard

Is there a difference from the 81-82 & 83-87? I found some truck pics where there seems to be a difference between these year ranges. The 83-87 seem to be what these might fit but still haven't found a real good pic to determine for sure.
I have a friend that will be here tomorrow with his 84 GMC, so I am going to test them on his, to see if they match up properly.

Here is a pic of one on my 79. Also, the difference between 81-82 and 83-87 is the 81-82's have the park lights in the bumper. Shape is the same.

"Are you still talking about the bumpers?"
Yes, The pics I found of 81-82 seemed to be a slight difference in profile. The samples I found may not have been original bumpers. Will bumpers in these years interchange, as far as mounting brackets, width, etc.? Yep, definitely not a 73-80. Thanks for the pic of your 79.

The bumpers won't interchange without some work. When putting 81-87 bumpers on a 73-80 you have to cut the frame ends back on a angle. Bumpers on 81-87 curl under more. |
