How many speakers??

I'm getting ready to start replacing speakers in my 84 K10 Silverado. I know it has 4 x 10s in the rear and 3.5s in the front corners under the dash. Is there a 5th speaker in the center of the dash or not? if not, what is the grill in the dash for?

Second, are there conversion brackets to mount 6x9s where the 4x10s go originally? If so, where can i find them.

Ok, i think thats it for now, thanks for your help.

If your truck came with the lowest radio option there was just the center mounted speaker. I have no idea what size it was - I'm trying to find out so I can habe a 5 speaker stereo system, but there simply isn't a measurement. I think it wasn't a standard size. The top radio option in the truck came with the 4 speaker system without the center.

A company DID make the brackets to go from 4X10 to 6X9 but they haven't for years and they are very rare. Most peole just have custom 6X9 boxes made for the space which probably sounds better anyways.

I have 2 5 1/2" speakers in the center (minor trimming required) and 3 1/2" (stock size) at the ends, and 2 10's behind the seat. It sounds pretty decent, and wasn't really hard to do.

I opened up the dash openings a little and placed 4" speakers there, placed tweeters up in the top front corners of the cab, and 4x10s in their old spot. I then bought an 8" sub and added a little amp I had lying around to my sony xplod head unit. Placed this under the passenger seat. It sounds GREAT, and I spent less than $175 for everything- including shipping. I love eBay
