speaker placment opinions needed

I’m looking to add a sub behind the seat of my '81. I have the stock bench in there and was wondering what I could cram in there and if I could get it online? I was also thinking about cutting the bottom of my doors and installing speakers. Is there room behind there? Does anybody have concerns about this?

You could install a set of 8 inch bazokas behind the seat if you not looking for that big thump and just a little bit of bass.

I took some pictures of my old GMC truck. I have two 8" Bazooka's behind the seat firing into each other ( basic isobaric), with two 8" Mid bass speakers on the door bottoms. two 6" speakers and tweets on the door tops as well as two 3" tweets in the dash for frontal center imaging. There are two Rockford Fosgate amps under the seat and one Rockford Fosgate mounted to the cab back. I also have an EQ in the dash under the CD/Radio install, an Epicenter (bass enhancer) as well as an active crossover on the cab backwall. The items on the back wall is mounted to shelving strips mounted in the grooves of the cab, so that there are no holes in the cab wall. The 8" speakers on the door bottom have boxes built out of Medite and hollowed out to put the speaker outside of the door wall and slightly up from the bottom of the door. The door has electric windows and the regulator for that is just behind where the speaker would go in the bottom of the door. The 6" and tweets in the door to is mounted in a medite plate and do not go into the door. I just removed the junk trash bags from the door panels.

Shaved Chevy, what is the mounting depth on those subs? How far forward did you have to move the seat up?

In the picture, the box looks pretty wide but really it's only about 3/4 inch bigger than most boxes. The seat is just at the right distance for me to drive and I'm about 6' tall...although the back of the seat is very tight to the subs.

Set the seat forward one more notch and the notch the back of the swivel arms (where the seat pivots on the seat base) a little and the seat will fit closer to the back of the cab at the top and still give room for the speaker. The seat will also have a better angle for you to sit on it.

Requires the seat to be forward 1-2 notches.
(2) 12's in q-logic boxes.
Boxes dont provide the airspace required for the speakers, but it still pounds pretty hard and knocks the mirror down every other month or so.
The seat actually rests on the top front corner of the boxes. No damage to boxes or seat and have ran this setup at least a year now.
As far as speakers up front I say mount in the dash and get some q-logic kick panels. Mounting speakers in the door is good, but the kick panels throws the sound in a better direction. Running both is the way to go.

hey peicesparts, that is one nice azz set-up ya got there, wish i could do that, how much did it all cost ya?(minus the bazookas) i have only been able to fit 2 8 kicker comps behind my seat but i really havent tried to fit anything else back there, as im just now starting to restore my junk heap, ill post pics as soon as i can though for all to see the $500.00 piece of ****

A cost figure for the stereo system which was done a little at a time, might be hard. The Rockfords came at a good price, because a friend was the dealer. A figure of $250 per amp, the alpine CD and the Alpine Eq were at $289 for the CD and $110 for the EQ. The speakers were bought as a package deal of $300 for everything but the Bazookas, those cost about $125 each. The speaker boxes were built by me when I had a winter to screw with the truck and that cost about $100 all together. All of the other items, fuses, fuse blocks, wiring and connectors were purchased at a shop that was going out of business and I paid $50 for a whole pile of goodies. Amazing when people go into a store that is going out of business, they only buy what is on the floor (in boxes). Those other items run up a bill on an install pretty fast, so, buy when the opportunity presents itself. I realize it is like preying on those that are dying, but one must go for the stuff, before the bank eats it up.

build your own box that way you canbuild what you want....ive been working on a box for about 6 months now (keep getting side tracked with other stuff) this is the third rebuild of my box, i got one 12 an 2 6x9's im putting in it. plus ive made the back of it longer on one end so i can mount a little amp an not have to put holes in the cab...im only 5'9 so i sit closer to the wheel, i will look at cutting the swivel arms so it will lean back more.... on the bottom of my box i went out almost seven inches......at times i wish i would have just bought a 12 inch box for trucks....

Phoenix, what mounting depth can you put in those boxes? What is the cu ft? I have my eye on 2 monsters, but dont know what I'm going to use for speaker boxes.
