Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

Hello again everyone,

My dad and I pulled a 72 GMC short bed out of the woods a few weeks ago and it looks like it was originally a factory pink truck. I tried doing some digging on the color but didn't find much, although I did see member Already Gone had/has a nice one a few years back.

Just curious if anyone has any more info on the color as we've never seen it before, and figure you guys would like a look! It has since been repainted but it attached is a look under the door panels and the SPID to boot.

Says "Special Paint" three times. Does that mean it was white/pink/white/pink?

If I remember correct the pink was Canadian fleet color. There was a purple too.

Not sure how you searched but if you type Ice Coral Pink into the google search box above, click on the circle in front of 67-72chevytrucks.com and click on the google button you will get quite a few hits on it.

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

it was quit possible to get a truck about any color you wanted if you were connected or if, as Jim Wangers of GTO fame stated in his book. able to order 50 vehicles all at one time with a given color combonation.

I remember a customer comming to our gas station regularly with a Pink Cadillac Eldorado, back in the early 80's; awarded to her by her cosmetics company for regonal sales accomplishments, maybe the previous owner sold cosmetics in Texas

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

That would be Mary Kay Cosmetics. GM pretty much called it "Light Red", at least at the Van Nuys GMAD.

It's an anti theft color! Engineers said, we need A cheap anti theft system. Viola... a pink truck... worked like a charm!

Yes they had them here in Canada. Member Already Gone had one here in Saskatoon and it's still around town. Saw it at the last car show. There's a yellow green color that was available here too. One of them around here too. Purple is another. I know of a purple one.

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

Seems like it most people agree that it was a "Canadian" colour: but the VIN indicates that truck was made in Fremont, rather than Oshawa.

You found a pink shortbox in the woods? You need to tell us more about this! And more pics please.

When most people agree on something its usually wrong. Where did "most people " get their info. Those poor canadians... according to most people.

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

I'll add what I know about pink trucks. I've always thought it was Canadian only thing but as we have learned on here over the years there are no absolutes when it comes to these trucks. I did have a pink and white72 C10 but it wasn't an original pink and white truck it was restored to those colors in the 90's. Attached is a sheet with the mid year special paint codes from 1971 and it was in my truck when I bought it. The shade of pink in the posters pic looks very pale and being from an inside door panel I guess it should't be faded. The pictured is an origianl pink/white truck but ws redone 10/15 years ago. If you look at the 4001 numbers on the paint codes on the sheet and on Fremont truck they are different with the Fremont truck showing 4001DA and the Canadian/Oshawa Truck showing 4001ZC. Also the Fremont truck is a 1972 and the Oshawa truck is a 1971 I think the Fremont truck was different shade of pink than the Ice Coral Pink and to me looks like Mary Kay pink or it could have been for another promotion.

Well now I am even more interested. Hopefully OP will post more pics, I want to see this thing.

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

I'm not sure how long the PO had it, I think maybe only a few years if that but it was stashed way far back on his property. The truck had a flat bed put on and was painted white at some point, but as I have pulled parts some of the original paint has been uncovered.

There was no title when I bought it so I've just been selling parts, the cab and front end are pretty rough but the frame should find a new home soon so at least part of it will live to see another day!

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

I noticed that on the DuPont Colorado sheet, that it said "Spring Colour" maybe it was a promotional colour for certain regions of the country,I had a 72 Fo$d F100 that had a special promo paint job called Mustard Yellow and it was a Explorer, they did not make Explorers till 73.

Re: Any more information on Ice Coral Pink?

I like the colour, provided its on a restored truck. Pink AND rusty, I dunno.

What I find really interesting is that the OP says its a SWB. All the Ice Coral trucks I've seen in pictures are LWB.
