New truck trying to figure out current suspension
Alright guys I just purchased this 71 C-10 and Im trying to get some insight on what drop it may or may not have on it. The front spindles look factory but not sure on the springs. The shocks where replaced at some point in its life front and rear. Tire size on the wheels are 275/55/20. I don't currently have measurements from the ground to the fender so I will apologize for that because I know it would help. The bed is off a 63 but im sure you could tell that!

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
4" front...4" rear
Front spindles most likely 2" drop plus 2" springs, would have needed new shocks Rear springs look like 4 " drop, cant see the shocks so cant comment How does it ride? Bump Steer? Bottom out?

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
it honestly rides just fine does not bottom out from what little I have driven it. the front ball joints are shot. The spindles up front look pretty dang original from what I can tell. Thats lower than what I was hoping for.

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
Sadly, there are some "mechanics" that will heat a set of coils to drop them, or worse, cut a coil or two off of them...
If the spindles look original, this may be the case... Pics of front suspension showing coils and shocks will help... Does it have a front sway bar fitted? The way the 20's tuck up under the front fenders usually happens only with a 4" drop... Check out this page on LMC site...it shows approx views of various drops.. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=139

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
Some shots of the front suspension obviously needs some cleaning/updating

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
the pictures where taking with the front end in the air also so the suspension was not compressed.

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
Id say the rear is stock height with saggin springs.
Front maybe they cut a coil or 2.

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
I was reallyyyy hoping it was mostly stock I will be ordering a ECE 4/6 drop kit for it probably this winter and redoing the suspension. I just wanted to try and figure out how much more of a drop I could expect over what, if anything is on it now.

Re: New truck trying to figure out current suspension
That's great Clay. It ought to be stickied at the top of the forum here and on the suspension forum if it isn't already. I saved it.
