Suggestions about the date code?
From what I have read over at the Novak website, this manual sm465 transmission, along with the information I took off the side of the case was produced from 1968 to 1991. While I took it out of a 1969 c/60 dump truck, it appears as though it is not original to the truck.
D254 GM 6273212 I also read, from a different site that the original parts should also be within a 10 year span of the vehicle production date. So does this date code read: April 25th, 1974, or 1984? Or is that just it, given that this transmission was not made in 1964 or 1994. Thanks for any help. |

Re: Suggestions about the date code?
No. typically the date code for the manufacture of a part used on a given vehicle occured withing 3 months prior to the vehicle comming off the line. This is not a hard fast rule because GM was known to do certain RPO's in batches. But over on the corvette side of the house three months prior to the vehicle commng off the line is the general rule.NCRS came up with that rule of thumb for judging perposes, plenty of evidence otherwise too.
I worked on big trucks back in the late 70's early 80's and as soon as the warrenty was done, anything could have been stuffed back in that truck. more often than once too. Last edited by mike16; 09-20-2018 at 11:00 AM. |
