Cool question
Well, cool...ing question. My truck has a 350 in it but I know that it originally came with the 4.1L six in it. I was wondering if the radiator for the 4.1 would be the same for the 350. Is there a difference or is it too small to cool my V-8? My temperature guage is on the blink (along with every other guage I have) so I don't know how hot my engine's getting. If it is too small, would a radiator from a 72 fit?

what year is your truck? i know that the 67-72 radiators are shorter than the 73-87. it would probably fit, but you would need to fab some stuff.

I don't claim to be an expert, the V6 trucks I have seen all had smaller radiators and differrent shrouds than the V8 trucks.
There seems to be at least 3 radiators used for V8 applications. A huge 4 core for big block trucks, a 3 core for A/C or heavy duty cooling small blocks and a smaller (I think also 3 core) for the small blocks. A few years ago I replaced the radiator in my 305 truck and went with the heavy duty cooling application. The radiator was cheaper than the standard duty application. I had to swap the upper shroud and attaching brackets to do this. The shroud and bracets were dealer parts that really weren't too terrible on price. |
