'40 Chev 3100 - HELP PLEASE - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Im new to the world of trucks, yet I do have a good understanding about them. I am currently looking to but a '49 Chev 3100 (5 window), but I can not seem to find specifications about it.

Im looking for such things as Stock engine, suspension system, brakes, ect.

If anyone has any info. about this truck, could you please help a kid out.

The engine is either a 216 or 235 6 cylinder splash oiled unit.
The transmission is likely a 4 speed, non synchro
The rear gears are probably 4.11's, but might also be 4.56
The brakes are manually adjusted drum brakes(they are terrible in most cases)((my opinion only)
It has a solid I beam front axle.
6 volt electric system
I dont know what else you want

on this site is a vin decoder when you find the decoder there will be an 800 number for GM to order a "Restoration pack" that has everything you wanted to know about your truck. I got one for my 47 and it is detailed tech info on everything. Just have your VIN number and be patient you will get transferred several times. Good luck

the stock 4-speed is a mucie sm420 syncromesh transmission
the most common tranny was a three seed column shift syncromesh
the 216 is splash oiled but the 235 has a traditional oil pump.
