tire rubs steering arm

My 68 GMC 4x4 has what amounts to maybe a 1-2" lift becuase of adding leafs to old ones, a shop did this. But the tires I got at a real good price with rims are BIG, and I like that it makes up for the SM465 trans and 4.56 gears. However the left tire hits a steering arm when I turn to the right. Has anyone fixed this before? All I can think of is
1. smaller tires
2. alot more lift
3. customize the steering arm
4. weld a nice flat peice of metel around the arm so the smooth part of the tire hits it instead of the tread grabbing that steering rod.

OH, I didn't mention I have no power steering, which I'd like to have but have no clue how or how much $. The tires are about 33" currently.

I should also mention that the previous owner put in a 250-6 which I am debating on swapping to a 350 on a limited budget.

i definitely wouldnt do number 4 lol, id either get smaller tires or get a 4" lift, you can get a block lift for the rear kit for pretty cheap.

im unfamiliar with the manual steering, but it coudl be the backspacing of your wheels, or the width of tire and/or wheels. my truck has a 2 inch lift and 33-12.50/15 on rally wheels and i don't have the problem, but again its power steering, so i don't know

Ya it actually hits a nut with a pin thru it which holds the arms together, but even with 2" smaller tires I would hit the arm next to it. I'll have to see if I can get a pic. ANyone else have manual steering? I have manual brakes too.

wheels with less backspacing will fix it.

Do they make extensions for these 8 bolt wheels, I can't find any used "deep" wheels 16" 8 lug. Anyone have some for sale?
