Small Back Glass - Sliding Back Glass

Anybody know where I might could find a sliding back glass for my small window 1965...? No a/c, so the sliding glass would come in handy here with the hot, hot summers.

Golden State Pickup Parts also carries them but the price is higher and their link doesn't copy over.

Note the new windows don’t replicate the original, which may not matter if you’re not doing a strict restoration. The OEM version opened on one side.

If anyone already has a sliding small back window - what do you think of it? Are you glad you have one, never use it, wish you had the stock glass, etc. Do they leak when washing the truck or raining?

I have one in my '66. I like having a slider. I think I got mine from Grumpy's in the early '90s.

Ive had an aluminum aftermarket, 4 panes of glass. Worked great never had problems. Great for air circulation in the cab with the vent windows cranked all the way and the foot vents as well. Plus you can toss your McDonalds bags into the pickup box for recycling later.

I've have this aluminum aftermarket ( pictured ) 2 panes of glass with an adapter for attaching to a camper unit so you can communicate from the cab to the camper.
The Camaro on the left has original paint, original interior. Was purchased at the local dealership, a blown 350 was installed , then it sat in his father's warehouse till last year when he sold it to his friend.
The 31 Chevrolet 5 window coupe, a project since he was 14, he's 48 now. Lot's of work done to this car, a lot of original parts grafted into the modifications. Super detailed!



Ive had the one from Barber's Glass featured in the 1963 Silverbook. That one was 2 panes of glass in a rubber channel with weatherstripping. I called information in 1999, Barber's phone # was still listed and was still the same last 5 digits.( Maybe someone in Oklahoma City could do a reverse phone # lookup or drive by the address and see what's there now)
I spoke to the owner and he still had the original templates for small back window or Panoramic View ( Big Back Window). I asked for Easy Eye Glass ( Green Tint ). Had it shipped to me when I lived in Vancouver, British Columbia. He said at the time that the business was for sale.
Didn't lock well, then again I leave my doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition.



Now I've got an original slider. Two panes of glass in a metal frame that juts into the cab. The 63 never see's bad weather. Picture is from another truck that I tried to buy just the slider. The glass was cracked and the spring loaded knob was missing. The guy refused $600.00 on it. Ya should have seen the rest of this truck! It was finished but he wanted to keep it together. Wanted $6,000.00 for the whole thing! Found mine on Ebay for $175.00 USD. plus shipping. Dirtydonnys didn't want to sell to international buyers, so we ended up finding a guy here in Montreal, who's father lived in Boston. We had him buy it, shipped to Boston, then transported to Montreal 2 months later. My life changed then because I'd been looking for a slider for 24+ years, thought I was going to die when the Ebay advertisement displayed No International Bidders!

Working from the inside of your pickup box.....

Install the rubber to the cab first with the joint at the bottom center.

Lube the rubber with dishwashing soap in the channel where the glass sits.

Place a piece of rope in the groove where the glass sits, starting at the bottom right corner,across the top finishing at the bottom left hand corner .

Install the glass bottom first into the rubber groove.

Appling pressure to the glass tilting it towards the cab interior as you pull on the string. The rope will deflect the rubber flap onto the glass edge.

Once the glass is in place install the locking strip.

It helps to have someone on the inside of the truck.
