84 hydroboost in 87

I pulled the hydroboost lines and pump from a 84 c30 a while back.

I have a 87 v10 with stock brakes.

Both use a v belt power steering pump.

Is this a unbolt and bolt new one in deal?
Will I need to leghten the break rod?
Any issue with rear wheel cylinders and pressure?

Trying to make a weekend upgrade out of it and want everything I need laid out.

Re: 84 hydroboost in 87

When I converted my 80 to hydroboost everything was bolt on.
I believe the rods were the same size. I was running a later model aluminum master cylinder with my vacuum booster but it didn't fit the hydroboost, so I had to buy the correct MC for that application.
Also the pedals are different, but I've read people using the vacuum booster pedal without any issues.
As far as pressures. I've haven't had any issues. Overall my trucks brakes perform way better, it doesn't take much effort to lock up all for wheels.

Re: 84 hydroboost in 87

c30 has bigger master . might be o.k. but maybe not .

hydro boost swap from vac you need the brake pedal assembly also as the rod pin is located at a different height over vac brakes .

also 2 studs would need removed from your bracket that holds the pedal if you didnt swap that over .

but for the most part your in the same family range .

your swapping in the p/s pump also correct ? as it has a 2nd return port for the hydroboost unit feedback .

Re: 84 hydroboost in 87

I pulled the pump, lines(new), master, hydro boost as a unit.
But I did not pull the pedal from the 84. Everything inside the engine bay except for the steering box I have.

So I just need the pedal not the bracket?
Pop the old pedal out and then install the new hydroboost pedal? Not sure if there is a grommet in there or not. But if there is I would want to replace that.

Is this something I can buy new from like GM or Bobs genuine oem Chevy parts?

Having it shipped to my door and in front of me for around $60 would make me happy.
I figure I would have that in gas + whatever to pull one from a yard or a part out.

Came across this part number 15734409 - Brake Pedal. But that is no longer available. Would think some one would sell this part.

Re: 84 hydroboost in 87

If you can, go back and get the pedal assembly from the C30. Not just the pedal, but the whole assembly. It will save you a major headace, time and money. I am swapping hydraulic clutch/hydro-boost into my 85. I now have a nice collection of 85-87 assemblies. Sweetk30 is correct, there are differences.

Ok.

I am going to hold off on this for now. Lots of other areas to play with first. Thank you for the great information and help.
