1969 SWB "Let's save another one!"

Here we go again. Started work on this little truck a couple of weeks ago. It is already far above in condition than my last one. Plus, it is already a shortie. Does not matter it would be sooner than later if it was not. This truck was headed to a doom of being parted out by a friend of mine, and I mentioned in passing, that I would take it on before I let that happen. It had been involved in a front end smash and he pulled the sheet metal off, revealing the lt green cowl. It is a 69, and I favor the 71-72 look so at least I know we are headed in that direction. Also since it is a double trim truck, I will break the paint as such along with the white. NO rust under it , and a little on the doors. Not going to spend a small fortune on it this go-around, just get it on the road and enjoy it for a spell. It will get a flat rear bumper along with a replacement bed side on the left. I drove to Tenn and bought a nice 350/350 combo and got it set in place this past week. Dropped a wad of cash on Southern KY Classic's counter today buying all the little thins I need to proceed. A 3/5 static drop and some decent wheels should help the look. Stay tuned, I will update as I move along. Gonna keep this one for a long time. Here is a few photos to show off. Starting as found to now.

Congratulations man! Such a nice start to work with for sure. Do you plan on keeping the green when you add the white? Very nice score there. Hows the interior? Hats off for saving another one from the parts board! Did you need tostraighten the frame rail out ? I see a place where it appears to have been heated with a torch? Just curious.....

Re: 1969 SWB "Let's save another one!"

If someone straightened the frame, they did a good job. I have a 68 frame I measured against before I dropped the eng in. Both measured within a 32nd. up and down the rail from pass to drivers side. and yes, white on top, lt green, white, lt green on bottom. I have a picture that looks like what I want to end up with. Also picked up an amazing sliding back window, can't help it, I love them. the interior is solid 90s. Tweed seat cover and covered door panels and headliner. Got to get that out of there. Idiot light dash, more or less complete, but the interior has been painted the same crappy color as the rest of the truck. I'll fix that though.

Great ,Glad to see another one saved.
I remember your shop truck build.
It turned out Awesome.
I did go back and look at it again.
I'm in for this build also.
I remember all the rod run pics you posted.
Will you go to the Rod Run this year?

We have a cabin rented, that's the plan. Going to take lots of pics again. I don't see having this one ready by then, so we will take the spectator route. Love the mountains in the early fall. Last year there seemed to be twice as many 67-72s as the years before. We are seeing the popularity growing every year by the pricing of just the drivers. Lots of these trucks were priced close to 40G, and I never thought I would see that.

I was there last year and going again this year.
I remember seeing your pics when I got back.
I looked at the pics I took they didn't turn out so good.
I take a better camera this year and try again.
The LeConte center was good first time I had been to that.
I will be a spectator also.

Re: 1969 SWB "Let's save another one!"

Time to get this thing on the road before the snow flies. Got some engine trim work done and started making use of the pile of new parts. I hope to have the front end assembled shortly. So here are a couple of update pictures.

Re: 1969 SWB "Let's save another one!"

After church, went ahead and got the other fender in place along with this old radio delete cowl I had laying around. Gonna get started this week on the 72 front end parts to see what I am missing. The weather has cooled off into the upper 70s and progress comes along much better for me when I'm not sweating like a pig.

ODLE Chevrolet. I got the cowl off of a 71 years ago that was being parted out. I like radio delete so I want it on this truck. I also like the dealer tags even though most are out of business. I Googled this one, and it gives a current address.

Subscribed, this looks like a fun build. Did you have to buy a new radiator support?

Re: 1969 SWB "Let's save another one!"

No. It is a good used one. New Inner fenders/front end bolt kit/and a new battery tray. The rest of the front is GM. Gas tank is nasty so I bought a new one of those. Two radiators to choose from so maybe that will work out ok. The grill and surround I have looks great and I have a nice 72 front chrome bumper for it. Gaps are working out good so far but there is a ways to go.

Re: 1969 SWB "Let's save another one!"

Did some front end work to see how it is going to fit. Went ahead and loosely hung the bumper and pushed it outside for a pic or two. Radiator and wiring it up is next on the agenda.

I'm painting it as of now, white/lt green/white/light green, but who knows, I might change my mind. Steelies, and poverty caps
