A Few Spring Questions!
Hi everybody!
I am trying to figure out an odd ball spring issue I have. So my truck is an 85 GMC K2500 with the heavy duty chassis/8600 pound gvwr. I have been checking out the rear springs, and can't seem to find much info on them! My springs are 7/1 and 56 inches long. Closest thing I can find to them on line shows for a half ton, rated at 1950 pounds per spring, but also seems thinner than my pack which measures 3 3/4 thick. Is this right? Seems odd to put that spring on an HD 3/4 ton. My next question is, would 1 ton springs raise my truck? I know it would simply by having a thicker pack, but would it also be raised due to the difference in spring hangers between a 3/4 and 1 ton? Thanks for any help you can give! Nick |

I can't follow what your asking..is something wrong with your 3/4 ton springs...can't really compare them to 1/2 or 1 ton springs

Essentially, I was wondering what these springs are rated at. Can't find anything online about them. It looks like they are starting to develop a negative arch at the front spring eye and I was starting to consider a replacement.
The truck is currently lifted 4 inches with rear blocks. That's why I was asking about the lift with one ton springs, if there was going to be some sort of additional lift with the one ton springs that needed to be compensated for. |

would be best to get new springs if yours are going bad...then you could get them with the 4in lift done with the spring arch and get rid of the lift blocks...
I looked at my 1 ton and it looks like around 3in of arch in the spring and about 4in of spring stack not counting the load spring...but it takes a lot of load to make them give. ..would be a terrible ride in a pickup |

Thanks for looking. I just looked at mine again. I have about 600 pounds in the bed right now, and it is sitting on the bottom overload leaf. I am guessing they are worn out. That might also explain the stiff ride too! Never really paid attention empty.

Take a look at my 87 V2500 with new springs installed. Those are the same tires I just changed the hub caps. It definately lifted the truck an inch or two. |

altho i got mine from local shop . not offline. there 56" long but for a 3/4 ton susburban and 2600lbs per pack . much nicer ride in my k30 truck over the 3400lb packs stock . and to cover my missing gvw capacity firestone air bag kit .

Just to update this thread over a year later. I ended up scoring new 22-617hd springs (price was right, so I had just ended up pulling the trigger on these). Pulled out the old springs today. The ends of the 2nd and 3rd springs were actually curved down. Put in the new springs and they are SUBSTANTIALLY heavier. I finally wrestled them in. The truck now has a bit of a rake. I may have to get shorter blocks in the rear, but haven’t had a chance to drive it yet due to brake issues. I am wondering what the ride will be like.....

So far (around the block) ride wasn’t too bad! Of course first actual trip will tell the whole story!
