Stock 1 bolt engine mount vs clam shell
Good evening all, I am debating back and forth between the stock style 1 bolt motor mount and the newer clam shell style. I am going to have a decent amount of power, so I had planned on using a set of Energy Suspension 1 bolt mounts. I've read that these should handle the power no problem and have a built in plate that doesn't allow the mount to come completely apart.
On the other hand, the clam shell mounts. It would require the stands and shells from a square body. My gut is the stock mounts with energy suspension mounts, but I wanted to see what everyone is running. Thanks! Nick |

My Jimmy has the stock replacement rubber mounts in it. Not lots of power, but more than stock. We bought the Energy mounts for my kids project Jimmy and I am just running the rubber mounts in my '71 big block stands that I'm doing for my roller cam 427 swap.

Running a real snotty SBC with the one bolt poly with hook built in . Have not had no problems . energy suspension they are tough.

The clam shell mounts are the best. There's no way to separate them, The rubber cushion of the mount is captured inside the metal shell.
The early style mounts can seperate, doesn't mean they will, or have to... I used to sell auto parts. Some of the mounts I sold had the two pieces of metal (the rubber between them...) interlocked, so that in case one of the plates comes loose from the rubber, the movement of the mount is limited. Some of the mounts did NOT have this feature. Not sure what the pickups stock mounts were like... Glad to hear in post 3 about the energy stuff holding up!!! |

The clam shell mounts are a lot easier to install the engine.Drop it over the mount slide the bolt through.Have had both types, clams hands down for ease.

It looks like the ES urethane mounts have a hook built in. The only reason I was debating, I am trying to trim the fat so to speak on my build. Costs have overrun a bit and I'd like to keep them in check a little.

One drawback to the clamshells is they take up more real estate around where the exhaust pipes run. The Energy mounts are "safety" mounts so I don't see why you wouldn't run them.
