Vin Number ?

I have a '72, 3/4ton 4x4 and alot of other trucks. As I was verifying the VIN Numbers on the titles to the trucks I checked the VIN on my daliy driver, the '72 3/4 ton 4x4 and the first two letters are "CK". The reference material and I am under the impression that "C" stands for Convential (2wd) and "K" for 4x4. The second letter is the engine type: "S" for 6 banger and "E" for V-8. This is odd, as all data plates has the same stamped "CKE" letters at the begining. Does anybody have a explanation where "CKE" came from?

the CK or CC designation started in 72. It was to designate the manufacturer of the vehicle I believe. GMCs started with a T, like TC or TK, where as Chevy started their VINs with a C such as CC or CK.
