New stock Front Leaf Picture?
Does anyone have a picture of a new(er) set of front leaf spring installed on a 55-59 truck?
I am looking at my truck and trying to figure out what i want to do in regards to the suspension this winter and thought i might install lowering springs. Best i can purchase is 3" lowering in the front. I wanted to look at a pic to compare to my current set to see how much it is actually going to make a difference. Not sure how much mine have already sagged with age. If mine have sagged 1" in last 60 years then with the 3" lowering springs i would really only get about 2" drop. |

Re: New stock Front Leaf Picture?
You're math is correct in that if it's down an inch now, a new lowered spring pack would only be 2" lower.
Check Kijiji for an ad in Ontario for a 3" lowering I beam. He seems to have them figured out for sure. This option will give you another 3" drop with your existing springs and all your factory bits bolt on. I have a 59 that has stock suspension so if you want some specific pictures, I can help out.

Re: New stock Front Leaf Picture?
Thank you. Is it possible you could post a picture similar to this one?
As you can see there is little to no arch on these springs. Thanks again, appreciated. Quote:

Re: New stock Front Leaf Picture?
Yes that does help. If i had to guess i would say we have about 3/4"-1" difference.

Don't guess, measure from bottom side of frame to top of leaf pack, directly above the axle. I measured mne at exacty 5".

I measured both sides. I have 3 3/4”. Bottome side of frame to top of leaf pack. So I have a difference of 1 1/4”.
A three inch drop spring will only give me a difference of 1 3/4” lower. Posted via Mobile Device |

Unless you buy the 3" drop spindle from Captain Hairless.

Re: New stock Front Leaf Picture?
My old springs we're pretty flat too, so I did a 3" drop axel, new King pins, tie rods and drag link. Pulled 4 leaves out of the rear and added drop shackles.

Re: New stock Front Leaf Picture?
Did you have to modify anything when installing the three inch drop axle? Did you replace the front leaf springs at the same time?

Re: New stock Front Leaf Picture?
I did not modify anything and I used the existing old flat leaf springs. If I go any lower I would need to bend the steering arm for the drag link to clear the axle at full left lock. I used Sid's drop axle. He does modify the tie rod connection to come up rather than down so the tie rods won't interfere with the leaf springs. I also had him install new King pins. I mailed my axle to him, he mailed it back 3 weeks later and I bolted it in after work on two afternoons.
