Temp gauge question
What kind/year is this temp gauge? How can I make it work?
It always shows full hot after the engine is running a short time. It has an internal resistance of 50 ohm. It shows hot if I connect 12 volt directly to the it. Is there a resistor missing? The temp sensor has 800 ohm and it decreases if going hot. I've replaced it with a new one, same thing. Is it the right temp sensor? What's wrong with this gauge? It's a 61 Pickup truck. Any idea? Thanks. Last edited by Joerg; 10-17-2018 at 10:00 AM. |

Re: Temp gauge question
These guys may be able to help. Their temp sensors corrected the factory temp gauges on both my 64 C10 and my 69 Chevelle. Maybe they can give you the specs on their temp sender for your vehicle.

Re: Temp gauge question
My truck is a 65, but the temperature sender that was in it was the later model, incorrect one. I put about 14 ohms of resistance in the circuit and it seems to be working OK.

Re: Temp gauge question
Is your new sending unit specifically for a '60-'63 truck with a temp gauge? If not, you need one specifically for the truck.

Re: Temp gauge question
I would say they both should be correct for your truck.
