Looking for an east coast restoration shop w Blazer Experience
I have a 72 blazer with an LS swap that I picked up and I just don't have the time or the space to do the restoration myself. Was hoping someone might have some recommendations of a good shop with experience w 69-72 Blazers or trucks. My blazer is going to need rust repair, paint, and some other upgrades and modifications. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I'm in NJ and moving to Nashville but open to sending it to the right shop. NOT looking to make this a 6 figure build.

Re: Looking for an east coast restoration shop w Blazer Experience
There is a garage that is in Layton, NJ called Layton garage or Hull co.. They have experience with the 67-72 trucks but not sure about Blazers but they do good work. Last that I knew they were in the top 100 garages in the us for restorations. No matter what work you have done its gonna cost you a lot with a restoration co.. I'm sure they can do what ever you want, they seem flexible.

I have no experience with this shop but I've heard some good things
If you're moving to Nashville it would be fairly close....in East Tennessee http://www.nsanehotrodz.com/

Here's the shape of the truck currently. Think it has some good bones and already has the LS swap but needs to be cleaned up. The photos make it look a little cleaner than it is but overall its in decent shape.

Re: Looking for an east coast restoration shop w Blazer Experience
I know a restoration shop in NJ. I've never done business with but I know the owner through two brothers and site members I have known for close to twenty years. Doug, the owner has a Jimmy he is doing. The one brother, Jeff, works at the shop and has done some beautiful work I have seen up close. His brother Jim (Jimer64) has a fine example of his work in his dark blue '69 K/10. They have done and are doing at least one 69-72 K/5 right now. A third friend and fellow member, Randy, has three. This shop knows K/5s, owns K/5s, and loves K/5s. I sent Jim a text last night asking him to get you the exact info. I may send Jeff a text today.

Re: Looking for an east coast restoration shop w Blazer Experience
If it runs and is reliable I would drive it and enjoy it for a year or two before I started the restoration. It looks to be in decent shape and once you start tearing it down it will be a while before you get to drive it again.
Nice blazer, good luck, Rg

Re: Looking for an east coast restoration shop w Blazer Experience
Thank you and I would agree with you on enjoying it first but I have been fortunate that this is actually my second one. I partially rebuilt this (blue) one to where it is today but it has a 454 in it and with the amount I drive it an LS would save me in gas but to swap out the 454 made no sense on this truck.
Got a good deal on the orange one but it's just more work and time than I can handle. Plan is to restomod the orange one and then sell the blue one when orange is done. |

Blue one is nice, I'd have a hard time selling it!
I know what you mean, my second one is in pieces. Good luck, Rg

Re: Looking for an east coast restoration shop w Blazer Experience
When I started my project I was thinking $12-15k for rust repairs, a couple of dents, a paint job and a set of seat covers. I ended up going totally overboard, doing a frame off, restoring any trim I could and replacing the rest, ultra leather for the seats and door panels. Shutz for the fiber glass top. You name it...
I'm going to be $30k in at least. It's hard to do just a little bit when in your mind it's just a few k more to do it around up... And then you keep on finding more little things to do right... Slippery slope.. But I'm not regretting it. |
