I have had both. Like you I really wanted a T56 in my truck so when I had a chance to get one I stuck it in the corner waiting till my 4l60e was done. Once the converter went I did the swap. I had a good clutch but it was not enough and still slipped. Now that may have been a combination of my (and my son's) driving style plus the heavy truck plus the turbo power.
I then picked up a great deal on a built 4l80. I tell you that transmission is a lot of fun with a small converter it works very well. The manual was fun and is a great fit in a car but with my truck I just couldn't get it all to work the way I needed and wanted. I vote the 4l80, I dont think you will need another one. Dave
