THAT is a great question! Seems like a lot of effort to go to if one just wants to dampen axle wrap... But it sure aint helpin the ride much

Re: 1970 4X4, what kind of rear end set up is this?
One could buy this type of unit in the 80's-90's supposedly to help with axle wrap. I could never comprehend how this would work except with a violent shaking situation. It was popular with the "mega shock" crowd that liked to put as many useless shocks on the rig as they could. I opted for the same configuration but with solid steel bars with urethane bushings and are adjustable. They function like traction bars. When I purchased my truck it had several mega shock options that some guy with a stick welder thought would be a nice improvement. Days of cutting and endless grinding to bring it back to recognizable condition.

Yep, Rancho tried that for axle wrap. I had something like that called Buchwackers (not the flare company) that mounted in the same place but was a solid link with bushing mounts. Worked really well as a traction bar and didn't affect the ride

I remember those, think they were called kicker shocks.

That Stepside on bring a trailer has a lot of oddities to me and I don’t get a good feeling from it.
