Rear end widths, worth keeping?
Slowly but surely thinning the herd and parts stash (where does all this stuff come from haha!).
I'm down to three extra rolling chassis that I'm ready to say goodbye to, and while chances are slim Ill ever need them, I'm thinking about keeping the rear ends. I have no idea what the gearing is in any of them (all C10's). The 67 and 69 were both V8 trucks with factory overdrive trans (all that stuff is long gone). The 68 was a V8 auto truck. The 67 and the 68 are trailing arm. The 69, although a Chevy, is a leaf spring truck. Not 100% sure on widths, but aren't the 67 and 68 a little narrower? Do these have value over the wider rears? If so at the very least I could sell them down the road. |

Re: Rear end widths, worth keeping?
67-69 is one width, and 70-72 is wider. With the caveat that some early 70’s may be late 69’s...
Personally, I don’t get rid of any hard parts, but family property means I can store as much as I have. I would want to know for sure what gears and whether they were limited slips before I got rid of them. (But I wouldn’t get rid of them. LOL)

Re: Rear end widths, worth keeping?
Both are equally worth keeping. While the 5-lug disc brake crowd 71/72 will want the late rears the Stepside, stay original, stay 6-lug disc or drum crowd would be wanting the early ones.

Re: Rear end widths, worth keeping?
If the fill plug is a square protrusion it is a open rear end, if the fill plug is round with square recessed that sticks out from the body of the rear end housing it should be a posi. Ever since someone pass this information to me about 2 years ago every rear end that I have checked has rang true with this statement
