Most of the Vintage/Shurfit units require cutting 2/3rds of your glove box away to allow for the unit. The main body of the unit fits under the dash requiring this extra room..

I know this is an old post but I just picked up a 1964 Suburban with an original factory installed under dash A/C unit. I have attached several pics. I am going to remove it and install a modern vintage air unit.
