1980 Chevrolet van grill
Is a 1980 grill from a van the same as a truck?

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
They have different part #s, so I would assume, no they are not the same.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
I have a grille from an '81 van in my '80 C10. They don't (at least mine doesn't) have the chrome surround trim and mine didn't have the emblem when purchased, so I used a bowtie from an Impala.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
I don't see why not. Yes they have different part numbers, but the grilles are pretty much the same. The mounting tabs could be a bit different, but they still work. I gather up grille parts from the salvage yards and the grilles & parts are always the same, from truck to van, blazers and suburbans. The headlight buckets on the van make up for the space.
I myself, have a NOS Van grille on my 86 truck. The prices were outrages, so I opted for the Van grille, which was WAY cheaper, as far as price.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
Here are some Van Grille pics. As you can see, the grilles coincide with the truck grilles.
1980 Van 83-84 85-87, which on the van I believe it ran until 89 or 90.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
Very interesting. Glad this question came out. I'll keep that in mind when I see one in the yard again.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
I actually find that the Van grilles and grille parts/moldings, are in better shape than the trucks. I get pretty excited when I find a van grille, I know the parts will be in pretty good condition.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
Depends on the condition. I give $35-$40 for a complete grille, at the salvage yards, but it's mainly for all the trim parts. The grilles are usually broke somewhere. And then I have given just a bit more, for just the trim. I try and gather up all I can and rework the trim. The always have dings, dents and scratches. I like to make them into reusable parts again.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
I've got to get up in the garage attic to put some stuff away today. I have some grilles up there. I will get some pics to show the difference of the mounting tabs. They are all in the same place on the grille, just a hair different in shape. I prefer the van, less chance of a tab getting broke. The pics will explain everything, so hang tight and I'll get them posted today.

Re: 1980 Chevrolet van grill
Here’s the pics. On the truck grille the 2 tabs on the outer edge of the grille are longer, so they are at risk for getting broke, in my opinion. See pic #1. Pic #2 is just denoting which grilles are the van & truck. I see a lot of grilles and this tab is broke on just about every truck grille, but not on the Van. The rest of the grille, they are exactly the same.
