Re: '72 Project Deplorable
I got started on the new door panels and "Oh what a relief it is" to being in the shop again. Yesterday I got patterns cut and shaved down to where I wanted them to line up on the door. Then today I did some filling so that the panels follow the contours of the door. Here's some update photos.

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
Keep us updated on your door panel quest. I like your ideas.
I can see after the door panel design you are going for then will come a center console, seat covers, headliner and maybe new dash pad all tying in with your design. That will make you loose some sleep with ideas turning in your head now. Lol. Seriously, Good work and the market does need additional premade custom interiors in my opinion. My preference is a slightly updated version of the old but not full modern styling. That's me anyway. Many of us do not have good custom interior shops available in a decent shopping distance. May just be a rust belt thing. |

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
Haha, yes the center console is next and thanks for the kind words. I managed to get in a 6-pak worth of work on Friday so I wanted to update the progress. Admittedly, this center section was a real PITA so I'm going to redesign my process in order to pull both molds off of this one center section. It'll lend better to consistency from side to side anyway so I'm ok with that.

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
I managed to get resin on the first plug today. Now for some body filler and smoothing so that I can pull a mold from it.

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
Nice work on the door panels.
I like the time you have spend with the details in your build. You probably have a very nice Arm rest for these in your design. I am subbed. for your build.

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
Looks like your coming along on the panels. Just a question, would a storage area be possible between the trim rings at the bottom? Or would that be all wrong for the final look and design?

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
Thanks guys. I supposed something could be worked out for a storage pocket. In fact, we could call it the 2nd Amendment Pocket.

Fill, sand. Fill, sand. Fix a blowout. Fill, sand. It'll get there. haha...
I had a question about the top of the door panel so I thought I'd share some photos of it. |

Re: '72 Project Deplorable
I'm always looking at hollow dead spaces as a place for storage. These old trucks don't have storage but I would just fill them with crap anyway. Kind of like my one passenger crew cab because the back is full of crap lol.
It appears the top of your door panel will be a nicer area to rest your arm compared to stock. It's looking nice and looking forward to your finished panel. |
