Barn Find
Hi Folks,
total newbie here,...I just acquired an all original 71 C10 SBC w/96000 miles in a barn. Obviously it runs a little rough. Needs a carb rebuild, plugs, etc.. Figured I'd go with an HEI along with coil and new plugs. I've heard good and bad about pertronix. So I thought I'd just go HEI and find one that'll work with the OEM tachometer setup. Anyone got experience with HEI's as to fitment and compatibility with stock tachometers? |

Re: Barn Find
1st Welcome, someone will chime in with some info on your question. Might want to consider several gas filter changes if your running from the original tank. Post some photo's when you get it out in the open, sounds like a nice find, congrats.

Any HEI will work with the tach. Just hook the tach wire to the tach output on the HEI connector....

Re: Barn Find
OK Folks,
a few more pix. After receiving a "link" to another thread,.... it looks like I'm proof that a blind hog will find an acorn every now and then!! I'm learning as I go, but it seems I really did get a pretty good find!! Sorry they're all turned. Thanks for all the inputs and help. |

Re: Barn Find
Wow, looks really clean! Was that a nice sealed, climate controlled barn with no hay in it? Welcome to the board

Re: Barn Find
Well heck,.... maybe the "blind hog" didn't find an acorn after all. Not sure how I got all the "Super" badging, and all, yet don't have the proper RPO. Sure would be a lot of trouble to pass this off as a barn find AND put all the correct badging and interior trim, etc., in place. But hey,....I've had way worse lies told to me. My wife told me she had lots of family money coming to her,.... just didn't say it was coming from MY FAMILY!! It's still a great truck. And yes,...I've got adequate insurance through Hagerty on it. Thanks.
Anyone help me with the RPO? Is it "cloned"? |

Re: Barn Find
Go on Rock Auto and look up your truck, but as a 1976 model. Order an HEI for that vintage.

Re: Barn Find
Thanks for the inputs folks. I'm claiming my status of a C10 Super. I don't know how it was kept in this shape, but it was said to be in a barn for 18 years before I bought it, hence the original motor and 96000+ miles. I'm hoping the owner merely had it professionally prepped. The carb is pretty "gunked" up, runs fine but a hard start. Major tune up needed from carb to plugs, wires and an hei.
I look forward to "talking" to and hearing from many more of you as I struggle with keeping my hands off a restoration of this "super" for a while. Anyone put a Vintage Air A/C in theirs? (I live in south Florida). |

Re: Barn Find
That is a sweet looking truck, ...and for being in a 'barn' for 18 years, ...that must have been one heck of a 'barn'
Darn truck looks excellent, Congrats and enjoy |
