Door Lock

Can anybody tell me how the driver door should lock. If i close the door and lock the push button with the key, all is well, but if i lock it from the inside lever and close the door, im screwed..Nothing will open the door, have to use a coat hanger to break in....Is this right

No, the inside door handle should pop out of the lock position when closing the door. Not sure what you need to replace but something isnt working right.

Kenny is right, One can not lock the doors on a mid-60's truck by pushing the inside handle and closing the door. One has to use the key, unless you stay inside.

I had the same problem with my 63. I had to bust my vent window out one time. The only solution i found was to only lock the door with the key.

I just fixed mine. The spring on the door regulator is either broken, or is sprung. I got tired of breaking in the vent window, and barely shutting the drivers door so it wouldn't lock me out, so I welded the spring perminately to the regulator. It's like new now.
