Anybody know what this spring is for? I was pulling out the old carpet on the drivers side on my 72 blazer when i uncovered it

It is for you jack tool storage. There was a thread a while ago about this. apparently the actual jack was stored either in the bed or right here. I don't know if there was ever a consensus on were it was stored from the factory though. I will see if I can find the thead.

No one actually knows for sure it has gone back and forth. Some thought that if you had the rear inside spare holder the jack went back there with the holder. I have had my blazer 24yrs and it came from the orginial owner. The first thing I did was put monster tires and a lift. I remember looking at the entire jack assembly straped in behind that seat and thinking that was cool how it all fit. Also thought won't be needing it either and ripped it out. I still have everything but I was only 16 and cannot remember how it all went. So the big mystery is for a picture and explanation of how it was installed. Also I have an inside spare holder but the jack was behind the seat so who knows.

The mystery has been solved. I knew it was for the jack stuff, but I couldn't figure how.

Yes but if you look at the diagram you will see the jack there with the handle and everything else. Thats what I was saying mine had everything- jack included behind the front seat
