Re: 67-68 c10 aluminum side moldings question

I have recently fit the 67/68 lower trim to my 72 and, like pickupman says... they fit real nice. My truck had the 72 trim and a few holes had to be welded up because the 67/68 trim would not cover them, a few up front on the front fenders. My front fenders also had provisional holes in the inner brace behind the wheel well for both types of trim (one high and one low). It would be best to pay attention to the exact location of the trim clip at the rear of the front fender. If you drill in the wrong place, you will have a very hard time getting the nut on the trim clip or you will have to modify the inner brace. Other than that tip, the rest is very straight forward.

I used this write-up as a guide for hole locations, but found it better to adjust some of their dimensions...

One more thing to pay attention to is the location of the first and last holes in the door. If you get them too close to the edge, you will have to grind the clip down some to get it to live closer to the ends of the trim. If you get them too far from the edge, the nut will hit the inner door body. I ended up grinding the clips down a bit (Maybe an 1/8") to guarantee that the nut did not interfere with the inner door body. Part of my issue was also clearing the existing holes for the 72 lower trim. I had not welded them up before paint thinking I was going to use 72 trim and then changed my mind to go with the 67/68 trim.
