Tilt column help!
In my 85K10 the steering wheel will not lock in place when the key is in the lock position. I've had the column apart, and the rod that moves up into the lock plate is stuck down. Is there any easy fix, or do I have to tear down the whole column?

Hi Anthony
Check out this web site. It's the best one I know of when it comes to tilt columns. There is a spring on a gear on the left side that gets bent (messed up). http://home.t-online.de/home/O_Scholz/steering.html |

I've used this site to fix my left turn signal problem(wouldn't cancel after I turned). Is the spring you are talking about the one attached to the sector?
Thanks, Anthony

If you go back to the tilt column web site and count your way down the pictures, picture 15 shows the spring. It down in the column a ways, and I wouldn't recomend just anyone to try and fix it. That spring is there so when you lock the column, and the rod is not lined up with one of the slots, the spring is compressed untill the wheel is turned. Then the column is locked. I usually replace the spring rather then try to bend the way it should be - it's to much work to get to, if I don't get it right. That spring is most likely where your problem is.
