Bought another 2006 Duramax

Got a good deal from work on this 2006 GMC Seirra 2500HD. Gutted interior, installed new carpet, repaired drivers seat, cleaned seats and seat belts with my Bissell Machine, bought new wheels and sold old ones on Craigslist, drivers door needed Hinge pin kit, installed new trailer plug and electric brake unit today. Had it leveled out with alignment this week too.

Looks great, a clean interior makes a guy feel good about driving something.

Re: Bought another 2006 Duramax

Very nice looking machine.

Excellet work on the interior. I've cleaned seats before. Not a super easy task. She looks a few years old inside but certainly not 13 and a fleet truck. Those cloth seats look new and the centre jump seat looks to be in great shape. Did you take any "before" pics?

Leather wheels aren't terribly difficult to clean and renew if the leather isn't too beat up. If you don't like it you can get brand new surplus GM no-button leather steering wheels on evilbay for a lot less than GM was asking and generally less than a leather wheel outfit will charge to skin your old one.

The dash bezel pops right off by pulling straight out at the outer edges. You can mask the black and use SEM plastic paint to renew the beige. A good paint store can color match SEM plastic/vinyl paint for you to spray on with a touch-up gun. After a good bath with DAWN and very hot water... wipe the area you intend to paint with Isopropyl alcohol to clean off any remaining oils. I usually use SEM plastic prep to assure a good bond but I'd test it on the backside of the bezel before you wipe it anywhere you can see.

It's amazing what a new set of headlamp housings, DRL/Turn/Parking lamp housings, and a Delco cyclops brake light lens does for the exterior looks. A friend asked me if I'd put on a new grille and painted the truck after I refreshed those lights and my truck looked very very good before I replaced those lights.
I had a terrible time finding aftermarket headlamps that would aim properly All of the aftermarket units I tried were more than slightly off horizontally and there's not a horizontal adjustment screw on the 03-07 Silverado headlamps. After returning two sets of Chinese aftermarket housings I bought new surplus GM parts.

The tails are easy to remove and de-oxidize with 400, 600, 800, 1200, & 2000 grit sandpaper and polishing compound on a Roloc foam pad... for that matter the front lamps usually clean up OK too but the 13 year old headlamp reflectors are still not as good as new GM parts.
I usually use clear Lamin-X UV film on tail and forward lamps after a sand and buff rehab to keep the sun from instantly degrading the plastic.

Re: Bought another 2006 Duramax

Thanks all. I did not get any picture before of the inside, but I can tell you it was dirty. This is the second one I bought from work, carpet wasn't even worth saving. I'm going to say I work on the interior for four eight hour days between seats, dash and all the plastic. Just a little labor and Simple Green. Outside still needs paint correction and wax. I pressure washed it real good at work before I brought it home. I'll cover up the orange stripe with a vinyl stripe, when I decide what I want. Got it clean enough now, so I can be seen driving it. Want to use this for an everyday driver, love driving my 06' Chevy 3500HD dually but too big for everyday use and it only has 50,000 miles. This one has 351,000 miles.
