Going to replace the third member
I was going through one of my Mopar magazines, and saw they had third members for sale.. I looked them up a little bit on the computer, and figured it would be way easier and cheaper to by a decent used chevy third member from the junk yard and replace mine... I figured it would be easier then the whole ring and pinion thing, and also be cheaper Any information or good websites anyone have that would help me out in this operation? I need to remove the rear axles i suppose.. How exactly do i do that, do i need any special parts, and is there a problem aligning them back in? Remember im 16 and have limited tools.. But i also have plenty of time on hands so i have the 4 - 5 hours this job is going to take!
Thanks a lot guys and gals! Chris

Chevy's don't use 3rd members if you are talking about a drop out third member.

Dana has several types of rearends that have 3rd members. I believe so does F*rd, too. Anyway, aside from the 3 big ones, (GM, F*rd, Mopar) the design is used in many, many other applications.

EditBTW, I was addressing the 73-87 model trucks that this was posted in....
