73-80 metal trim on 81-87
Is it possible to use the older metal trim on the newer square body? I have a 1987 crew cab that I want to do two tone.I love the look of the older style metal trim setting apart the two-tone paint jobs. Does anyone have any pictures of something like this

I think n2trux is doing something along those lines with the remix truck.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=762114
working around and the fender lines and the side marker lights may be a issue seeing as to how the front fenders are so different...the rest of the truck is pretty much the same...a front clip swap would make it easier......

A front clip swap is needed. The rest of the body you can retrofit

Re: 73-80 metal trim on 81-87
I don't see any real issue with adapting metal trim and two tone to 81-87. The biggest concession you'd have to make would be to run the trim line and color change clear to the front of the fender. There's no reasonable way to connect the upper and lower colored portions like there is on the 73-80 trucks. It would look more similar to the two tone 1980's Fords(google "1981 two tone ford" for example). The upper trim would need to be longer, so you'd need to use bedside trim on the front fender.
The marker light would be in the way. In Virginia, and likely other states, the side marker light only has to work if installed. It doesn't have to be there. Check your state laws, then close it up, and run the trim in its place. |

Quick Gimp job on the above truck. Hood line lowered and fender lines extended like 81+ trucks. Didn't bother with the grille. Deleted marker light.
Edit to add: might have lowered the hood too much. |

Here's a pic that just showed up on a nearby craigslist. I think they're asking eleven grand for the truck. I just thought the two tone treatment on the side was of interest.
