New Exhaust Manifolds hitting starter - any ideas?
I bought a pair of cast exhaust manifolds from Summit - I installed them and noticed they hug the block pretty tight. I tried putting the starter in and found that the manifold actually hits the starter.
Link to the manifolds I bought: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...make/chevrolet These summit manifolds appear to be a copy of the popular Hooker Manifolds many people are using. Any ideas? Do I need to use a different starter instead? It looks like maybe if I took the heat shield off the starter it may barely clear, but not crazy about that idea- I searched and didnt find much on this issue. |

I would remove the heat shield, and test fit the pipe. If it it fits, I would trim the heat shield the least amount possible to get everything to fit.
Edit, and check the clearance on your transmission too. |

According to summit racing they don’t clear the starter or bell housing on 04 and 06 GTO what did yours come out of also doesn’t fit ls7 or ls9

Mine is a 5.3 from a pickup truck. I spoke with Summit and I can return them so I am going that route and will probably look for some LS3 camaro manifolds.

My Manifold are from a Pontiac G8 and are probably the same as the ls3 I read an article that said That they preform just as well as the aftermarket Castmanifolds

Re: New Exhaust Manifolds hitting starter - any ideas?
Just as an update here - I returned the manifolds to Summit and found a set of 2010-up Camaro LS3 manifolds locally along with the factory downpipe and cat convertors still attached. I mocked it up and it all fits really well, so the LS3 manifolds are a good choice it seems.
