You will have to replace the front panel, all the cross members and the rear cross member which will be the hardest part.

Wood Bed

Gee Emm Is Correct + You Also Need The Wood & Metal Strips With Bolts. It Is Costly To Make The Change.
Estimate Cost
Front Panel 129.00
Cross Sills 39.00 Ea You Need 5
Rear Sill 149.00
Wood 350.00
Bed Strips Ss 129.00
Ss Bolt 70.00
These Prices Are New; You Might Be Able To Find Some Of The Parts In A Junk Yard & Save Some.

I thought somebody had a kit that just bolts the wood to the metal bed floor.

another fan of Mar-k. i used their kit and have seen several others used and they always look great.

there is also a company that makes a complete piece that is just one board cut to fit into your bed and on top of the metal bed. it has the metal bolts/strips and all the other to make it look like you have a wood bed, but you can take it out if you need to haul something and don't want to mess up the wood. heh, now that i think of it, that sounds kinda ricey

so, do you have to swap the front piece of the bed to switch from wood to metal? why is the switch necessary anyway?

lastly, anybody know where you can get the metal floor piece? mar-k can't get it

yes the front is different, the bottom bend will be at different heights for wood or metal beds

what about switching beds with another? May save you some money. Otherwise I'd just put the wood down right on top of the metal. If you've a stepside you could even get a sheet of hardwood plywood and cut grooves for metal strips - would be just for looks but would look nice.

What would be the benifits of switching to a wooden bed? I have a metal bed and I don't see myself switching to one anytime soon since metal is so durable.

The deck from woodandparts@yahoo.com is made to go over any year metal bed and gives you the best of both, and its easily removable if you want to take it out and just use the showdeck when you're showing the truck.
