Those times are way off for your power level. 60' sucks bad, and the 2500stall should help overcome the upper RPM cam because your still up near the torque peak when its flashing. Not using a tach is just.....well I can't belive you don't have one.

Them peg leg 2.73's are killing you. That cam needs 3.73's at least. It don't matter what stall you have, it ain't going to work with them gears. I wouldn't waste my time messing with it anymore until you get a posi and some gears.

Just don't make the mistake of buying gears first, installing them and then buying a posi later and redoing the rear again. Do the gears and posi at the same time....and for the love of god, GET A TACH
Oh and thanks for your honesty about your track times. I have my doubts about many of the posted times on here. I believe some exagerate their times. It wasn't easy to get low 14's (sbc) for me and when you do it in a light a$$ed truck like ours you've accomplished something! When you dip into the 13's with a pump gas/drive friendly truck, you've really proved something I had a 383/450hp sbc and could only manage a 14.2 I probably had a few more tenths somewhere but traction is an obvious issue. I can't wait to see your progress as I am struggling to break into the 11's with 548cu.

I figure that after all of this discussion it would be apparent, that you are thinking that you are making good. Your 2500 stall is to low for what you are trying to do at the track, it is coming up against the tranny and the rear axle and cutting out your power production at the line. An 86 Chevy C-10 is approximately a 4000 pound truck, with a brick wall for a grill. You have to have the capability to bring that 355 up to it's power range and then get the torgue converter feed it to the tranny. The 355 does not create as much torgue as a 383 or a 400 and it is probably hurting for revs to build power. The fact that you lowered the truck is good for aerodynamics, but are you getting axle wrap off of the rear springs? The lowering kits usually give you longer rear shackles and this is detrimental to you getting a good bite on the axle. You are losing a lot of torgue to the axle. What are you using for a transmission? Are you able to shift quickly without slipping clutches? There are four speed automatics out there that will support your engine and give you a better low first gear, as well as an overdrive for the highway. What are you running for tires? The width, diameter, and compund is very important, as well as the tire pressure you are running.
I have an 84 GMC pickup and it has a 383 in it with a 3:73 rear posi unit. Kick butt is a standard when it comes to little pony cars. I haven't run it at the strip, but I think that even with all of the junk I have in it, I could do what you are doing. |

Eric, my best 1st run was a 16.56 @ 80.17. Then with new tires I got it down to 16.10 @ 85. Then with 3.73's and posi brought it to 14.82 @ 89.99. Then with more practice and going back to the track frequently, I got to 14.51 @ 91.01. It could probably use a good tuning also, as it never has been tuned. My goal is to get as fast as I can before I put new heads on it, these being Vortecs.

Something else I have done is keep a log on an Exel spreadsheet to see how you are coming.

All I have to say is, welcome to the world of being broke. I remember what it was like when I was young and wanted fast stuff. You will spend every penny you have on it. Once the speed bug bites you, you are addicted for life.

Yeah, but the bad thing is the stuff I really want I cannot afford right now because I have to have a place to live and family to support. Always have to go faster though so it will come soon enough. Next on my list is a set of Vortec heads.
