stock vs after market coil springs
Truck is a 69 c10 LB step side, original 307 three on the tree.
I just purchased a front drum to disk brake conversion kit with 2 1/2 inch lowering spindles. I also bought 4 new KYB gas adjust shocks. Question I have is - while i have the U/L a arms apart do i keep same original coil (seems to be fine) buy a new moog coil or after market coil. I don't want to lower it any more then the the spindle will accomplish and plan to lower rear with a 4 inch lowering coil. I realize my original coil may have sagged a little and little rack is fine. Bottom line is are there any pros or cons to mixing and matching coils with original coil or new MOOG in front and after markets in rear. Not a big fan of spending money for new parts just because their shiny they need a benefit.

Re: stock vs after market coil springs
I would put it together and see how it sits. If the truck looks good drive the wheels off it. If the front is a bit low for you buy springs.

Re: stock vs after market coil springs
Rear coil is out and ECE 4" drop coil side by side. The coil i took out is 12 1/2" in height, stock for a 69 c10 is 12 1/4? The diameter of the coil is 3/4", the ECE is 1/16 of an inch less. From the picture did i have heavy duty springs in my truck?

Re: stock vs after market coil springs
Keep in mind that the original coil springs have had 50 years to compress and sag. When I did a disc brake swap several years ago, I wanted to lower mine a just a bit more than it sat at the time. I put a 1" drop spring in the front and 2" drop springs in the rear. The result was the truck sitting about 2" higher all the way around!
My suggestion is look at other trucks with drops. Figure out which drop you like and get the kit with all springs, spindles, etc. to get the desired drop. Or as mentioned, put it back together with the stock springs and see if you like it that way before spending more money.

Re: stock vs after market coil springs
Hi Matt...I guess i was just wondering on the thickness of the coil wire. The coil i took out was 3/4" thick and the ECE 4" drop spring is 1/16" less. There is a 2 1/2 difference between the 2 coils so i imagine the smaller ECE coil wire will compress more with weight giving it the 4" drop. After speaking with Mark at ECE i should see a 3 1/2" drop from were my height was with the stock coil. This would be due from the stock spring is 12 1/2" and mine is 12 1/4".....But every coil is different. So i'll throw it together and see how she sits
