Exhaust size question
As per my last post I now need to replace the two tail pipe sections of my exhaust. These exit just in front of the rear wheels and are about 4' ish in length from the mufflers. Looking at the mufflers it seems they have 3" outlets but have had reducers put on to fit I think 2 1/4" pipe. If I replace these with 3" pipe from the mufflers back is this likely to have any efffect on performance (i.e. is this a bad thing, will I lose too much back pressure?) and will it be louder as a result? It is currently pretty quiet and I like loud! I'm not expecting any performance gains just don't want to lose anything or damage anything.
Looking at getting it done in stainless if it's not too pricey as it'll last forever and will polish up real good on the ends.

I don't think you will see much of a performance change one way or the other once you are down stream from the muffler. Up stream you tend to loose some low end torque if you go to a very large pipe.
Now if you go with a wide pipe at the very end of your exhaust, the sound will get louder and deeper-----I have 2.5" pipe leading to a 4" exit tip ---which makes for a neat mellow tone. |
