Hickey Sidewinder Winch
Well, damn....I bought a Sidewinder without a Blazer / K truck mounts with it and now I am stuck. Guess I got a little ahead of myself
If any of you hear of one with all three Hickey mounts included that can be bought let me know. I will buy a second one to get the mounts since they are not something you can fab without originals in hand. Any help appreciated

Re: Hickey Sidewinder Winch
I would add that I have a great fab shop to make several sets off anyones entrusted originals - I would pay you a large deposit and you'd ship me your three mounts, Id have them replicated for everyones benefit, and send your mounts back to reclaim my deposit.

Re: Hickey Sidewinder Winch
I made my own mount. I did not attempt to copy the Hickey mounting plates. Mine mounts a little farther back and allows me to keep more of the front bumper intact. Much cleaner looking in my opinion. I bolted to large pieces of industrial angle iron to the frame rails (cold rolled 1/2 inch thick) and then bolted the diamond plate mounting plate to those with 9/16 grade 8 hardware. The winch simply bolts to the mounting plate with the circular bolt pattern. If I need to service the winch, I just remove the four bolts that hold the mounting plate to the angle iron and the whole thing drops down. Attached are some pics I took when I first installed it. I should note that this was over 10 years ago and the which has been used to pull other trucks out of stucks many times without any damage or distress to my mounting system.

Re: Hickey Sidewinder Winch
The winch is positioned as far back towards the motor as possible. There is a cross member on the truck frame that keeps it from going any further. Yes I had to trim the bumper but you would have to do that anyways with the Hickey mount. I will take more pictures of the mounts I made to give you a better idea.
I can't really make another and send it to you because its the kind of thing that needs to be fit to your truck. Also, the metal I used is not the kind that you can pick up at your local Home Depot. I found the big angle iron and high carbon diamond plate at a local machine shop. Both were recycled scrap. I doubt I could easily find the same stuff. I just wanted to give you an idea of how to make do without the Hickey mounts so you could do it yourself in a similar manner. |
